This assignment is designed to be run on your Windows 7 vm.

Virus Creation

Use the software at this or another of your choosing to create a ‘virus’ on your windows vm. Run it. Answer the following:

• Did it work? (Screenshot)
• Did antivirus find it? Download an antivirus program to see. Malwarebytes?

Malware analysis

Read chapter 0 & 1 in the malware analysis book here To get an idea of what to do, do a few of the labs at the end of chapter 1. The answers are in the back of the book. (I created a zip file with some of the malware tools that I used here.

Use some of the tools in the zip file to answer the following questions:

For your virus:

• What does virus total have to say about it? I don’t want a screenshot. Summarize.

For my virus found here:

• Find everything you can about it.
• What do you think it does? (I wouldn’t suggest running it ;-)
• What strings in that executable might be a red-flag?
